You need to figure out WHY she isn't eating. Is her tummy upset? Are her teeth OK? 14 is pretty old for a dog. It may be her way of letting go. Sounds to me like you need to get her to the vet.

I think you're right about the 'letting go' part. She has excellent teeh and does not seem to be in any pain. I was fixing her special food she especially liked, chicken and veggies, even chicken soup, she won't even touch dog food any more. But she has lost a great deal of weight and the second she shows any sign of distress, I will take her in, but I know already what they will say. Thanks for your input. It helps me to vent, I guess I already know what's coming. It's just hard. She's part of our family, all of our pets are.

My heart breaks for you - I have a 15 year old yorkie that also won't eat - I also have tried cooking all kinds of healthy food for her and if she eats anything I have to finger food her - I will try anything but like you I feel she is shutting down and it is hard to deal with. She seems to feel good but she also is loosing weight. I also can't put her to sleep until she appears to be having troubles but I think I will take her to the vet just to make sure there isn't something I can do. She is my family. Good luck.
