You will need to file an amended tax return to claim the difference. Document it all carefully.

What documentation do I need to attach? it's just a number to be changed on the line item.

Also do i wait till I get the original refund to file the 1040X or can I go ahead and do that right now?

You do NOT have to wait for the original refund.

When you file the Form 1040X, attach a properly-prepared Form 1040NR-EZ with the word 'AMENDED' printed on top of the first page.
