I have a hunter ceiling fan. The fan chain switch went. It was a zing ear #ZE-268S6. I replaced it with a Westinghouse zing ear #77288. Replaced wires as follows
L-black. 1-gray. 2-brown. 3-green.
Now the fan only has high & medium. And does not shut off with the pull chain I need to shut the switch.
Any thoughts on how to make it work. We tried switching the wires around. Still didn't work

Why did you use a different part, they are not all the same. PULL CHAIN SWITCH (http://www.shemoilighting.com/PULL_SWITCH.HTML)

OK, I have a workaround fix...
I too have a Hunter ceiling fan and replaced the original Zing Ear (because the fan chain switch broke off) with the Westinghouse zing ear #77288.

Same problem you had when I did: L-black. 1-gray. 2-brown. 3-green, got high & medium and won't turn off:

I switched 2 wires:
L-green. 1-gray. 2-brown. 3-black

Now it does turn off but the speed sequence changed.
It starts at medium > low > high > off

I can live with this (hopefully it doesn't blow up because other sites say "black always go to the L connection")
