So are you wiring a drum switch or motor?
Was there one existing? Can't you just put it back the same way?

120 or 240 volts? Basically if you connect the motors 1 and 3 together and hook to a hot, and tie the 2 and 4 together and connect to neutral, This happens for both the forward and reverse operation, what changes the direction is the 5 and 8. 5 on Neutral and 8 on hot, will give the one direction, and the 5 on Hot and 8 on the neutral will give the other direction. So : 1,3 and 5 on hot, and 2,4, and 8 on neutral will give one direction. And: 1,3,and 8 on hot, and 2, 4, and 5 on neutral will give other direction. They shown an internal connection, would rather have switch in hand to verify its switching and in particular the internal connection. I use other types of reversing switches, I usually remove the Drum switch and use others, for a lathe, Drum switch is perfect. Post back, can help more.
