I have a white rogers digital thermostat 80 series #1F86-344. The digital display went out and I thought it was time for a battery change. I removed the batteries and they were HOT! Any ideas? Thanks For A Reply.

The battery was most likely hot from a rapid discharge possibly caused by a short. If you replace the battery and there is a short it will drain the new battery in minutes. You may be in the market for a new stat.

Hi, a shortage in the thermostat is a good possibility, buy you may also want to check the wires to the outside unit to make sure the are not damaged. Hope you fine the answer.

I'm thinking a short within the thermostat so it won't be more than 24vac or 1.5 vdc.
