I may need to file form 4868 for an extension for filing my taxes. I am waiting for some info (spouse's SSN) but if that does not come, I will need to file for an extension.

Few questions on that:
- I have a hard copy of the form. How late can I mail it? Should it reach IRS by 4/17 or should it be mailed by 4/17
- Can 4868 be filed electronically?
- In form 4868, for column 5 in Part II, should that be the amount of tax paid from W2?

Thanks for your help in advance.

1. Yes, it can be mailed. Postmarked by 4/17/07
2. Yes, you can file for extension electronically by 4/17/07 depending on the program you use.
3. That is the amount to fill in.
Hope that helps.
