I have an opportunity for a life changing job. Just found out that I have to get a hair drug test. I'm a very infrequent pot smoker (a few times a year for several years). Recently I smoked about a joint and a half worth about 4 months ago (over a week span). I also took 2 hits about 2 and a half months ago. I've been clean since. Am I safe to pass the test in a few days?

Probibly not... but until the test results come back... you won't know.

I haven't taken it yet, I've got a few more days. I was hoping for a more positive response since I'm almost at the 90 day mark but thank you for the honesty. Mabye my facial hair will be a better option because its longer than on my head. Anybody know if facial hair is a better alternative than armpit, leg, etc?

It doesn't matter where the hair comes from. It's the follicle that has all the drug history in it, and there's nothing you can do to change that.

Also... they get to pick what hair is used... and they will go with any that is long enough to cover the period they are interested in.

Yes I've done a few of these for work related reasons over the years.

Have you ever been in "danger" like I am?

That really has no relevance... because the tests I also took were looking for illicit drug use... because of the type of work I was doing. Both pre-emploment screening as well as random workplace testing. And over 25 years worth.

Ok, plead the 5th, huh. Anyway, I've read some of dr bill's responses to other questions. Seems like I have nothing to worry about

Well... in any case its nothing but a guess until the results come back from the lab.

And the lab results are the only ones that really count when it comes down to it.

Incidentally I'm highly likely to have another in the next few months myself. A potential new employer most certainly does them as well. Both pre-employment and random.

Believe me, its not worth the hassle, I'm done smoking. And I was mistaken about the dates I last smoked. The joint was at the first week of April and the 2 hits were June 1st

With such minor use, while of course it will show up, it may not be a high enough concentration to trigger a fail of the test. We have no idea what this companies guide line for failure will be.

There is no wash, not magic pills, you will just have to take the test and hope for the best

I know that there is nothing I can do at this point. I'm not going to try to mask it, all I'm going to do is shave my arms, legs, and pits so hopefully they will cut my head hair or facial hair. Each is a little over an inch.

Be careful doing that, that is a sign to them, that you are using and want to hide it, in fact that is the worst thing you can do, it will be noted and even if you PASS, you may be not picked and someone else picked, because it was obvous you are hiding it. ( or tried to)

No worries. Im already hired, I start Monday. And I shouldn't have said shave. Im going to trim that body hair to .5 inch so my beard and head have the longest hair to minimize the chances of a body hair sample.

THat is going to be a flag to them that you are trying to hide something... and they can simply go after the slow growing eye brows and eye lashes... or pubic hair... nose hair... etc... if you get the drift.

Ooops. What little body hair I did grow (not naturally a hairy guy) its down to about a half inch while my beard and head hair are from 1 to 1.5 inches.

Take this as a hard earned lesson... the next time you might not get so lucky.

Use that fear... and remember if it's a great job... remember what you stand to lose. Eventually you wouldn't have to think twice about it.

And if you are in a room with others that are smoking... it can register. So avoiding the temptation... and the proximity are goals that will keep you safe.
