My Old fan motor has 3-wires. My new fan motor has 9-wires of different colors. Only three wires go to my capacitor . The brown, orange go to the capacitor. The black wire goes to the contact switch. Can anyone help with these extra wires? Also the old motor has a 4" shaft. The new motor has a 6" shaft. Thanks Joe

Info on the Motor would be helpful, May have a small diagram on the Motor.

With that many wires, it almost sounds like you have a blower motor instead of a condenser fan motor. Are there 4 short wires? If so, those are probably the rotation directional wires. The label should tell you how to configure them for the desisred direction of rotation. If there is a brown & a brown with white stripe, they go to the capacitor. The rest are likely for various speeds. How about a make & model of the motor.

The motor Grainger gave me to replace the original is Fasco Model# D917 # 2412120126 also the # 8556KTA-A14U. The original was a Emerson Motor# K55HXJGH2667 Part# 51-21854-01 and 1/6 hp on both motors. Also the shaft is 6" instead of 4". I read that it could be cut with an hacksaw. Do you know if this is right? I appreciate any advice greatly, thank you Joe

Had no luck on the Grainger site? Do the Motors from Grainger Not have wiring diagrams or diagrams on motor? Could not even fing that motor.

What are your wire colors?

You can place the shaft in a vice and cut off to length.

Thank you Stratmando. The wires came tied in a loose knot, but had five of them sort of separately. The colors were 2-brown one of the brown w/white stripe, one white, one black, and a smaller green ground wire. The other wires are two yellow, and two purple.. These other four were sort of separate from the five I think I need to use. I'm thinking I just abandon them and wire nut them off. The motor does come with a diagram, I just don't do this much and am trying not to wire it up wrong. Appreciate it very much! Joe

Connect Yellow to Purple and Yellow to purple, if it rotates the wrong direction, plug yellow into the OTHER purple, and plug remaining yellow and purple together.
Ground
Brown and Brown/white for capacitor.
That leaves you with a Black and White for Power, Verify this is 240 volts.
