Dear haylz-p,

I'm not sure if those moons are a good thing or not, either! However, an alternative medical practitioner told me at an event in 1995 that they mean how well your body is oxygenated. I had/have very little "mooning" in my fingernails, and he said that that is very bad and that I must have cancer or something (which to my knowledge, to this day, I don't have!), so, I guess, we have to take what he said with a grain of salt!

Why don't you ask your own family doctor, or internist, or maybe even your manicurist, if you have one? Cheers!

are you refering to those white moon things on your fingernails? well im not really sure what those are either i use to have em. well i dunno, my mom told me a long time ago that it means you are lacking some sort of vitamin or something, but don't worry too much about it ;) itll begone eventually. See a doctor if you are really unsure :P

Hmm, interesting. I too have these "white moons" on my thumbs only. Actually though when I was in Cosmetology school way back when, I was told that this is simply a fresh form of nail. It's there for protection in case your whole nail gets ripped off. That is where the new nail starts. It's most common in the thumbs. Just to be sure, are you talking about directly at the very base of the nail, next to the cuticle? Because that's what I'm thinking of.

As for lacking vitamins, usually that is represented by white lines going up and down the nail. The consistency of the nail would typically be very brittle and thin in those instances as well. Just a thought for you. I definitely do not think what you're seeing is anything to be overly concerned about in my humble opinion. Hope this helps!

Class, so it just determines what shape your fingernail is going to be!

I've heard that when the moons on your fingernails are quite large, it means that you are near death. That happened with my mother-in-law. I still wonder about that.
