My Shih-Peke is 2 years old. My boyfriend and I have been dating foa year now. Whenever she sees him, whether we go to his house, or he comes over, she is so excited to see him. But after a few minutes, she hides, or doesn't want to be near him. She will run to her crate or jump off the bed. We can be laying in bed together but as soon as he moves close to her, she is on top of me for protection. When we are walking around the house, she needs to be RIGHT NEXT TO ME. It's like she is a afraid of him. However, if I am not around, and he is, she will do her own thing, and then eventually go and sit with him. She will take treats from him, for for walks... It's like an on and off thing... I don't know if this is a jealousy thing, but how can I break this habit? HELP!?

Ignore her.

Every time you feed in her to fears or anxieties, they are just encouraged to continue to act that way and probably get worse.

If you ignore her and treat her like a dog instead of a "fur baby", than she will soon learn that her scapegoat (You) is not going to save her from something she is unsure of.

Just a food for thought.. Was he ever mean or harsh with her while you were not there? Its odd that a dog would exhibit a fear behavior after she was fine with him. It may have not even been intentional on your boyfriends part, but he may have done something she didn't like and is remembering it and is tolerating him when she has to.
