Hello, my barebone computer I built, the power button only lights up, the cd drive will not open and there is no sound in the motherboard the power cable is connected to the M.board, could it be the processor I placed in the socket? The power supply does not come on, and the fan does not run

Does the power supply come on, check if the fan on the power supply is working. If so then at least you know that power should be getting to everything, assuming it was hooked up properly, check all wire connections for loose connections, does anything happen when you press power (HD spin?)

A bit more info needed.

The power supply makes no sound, even though the unit is getting electricity through the power cord, also the fan is not running, thanks for any help,, I am thinking maybe the processor in the socket did not mesh...

Yeah maybe but at the very least the power supply fan should be turning on when plugged in and turned on, I think your not getting power. Check the on/off switch on the power supply itself, make sure its on. After this check the connection between the power button and the motherboard, make sure the wire from the button is going into the right place on the MB

You can check the power supply without the motherboard.

Disconnect the power connector from the motherboard. This should be the 20 pin or 24 pin connector. Also disconnect the 4-pin connector also, if there.

Use this Info here on pinout (http://pinouts.ru/Power/atx_v2_pinout.shtml) to short Pin 16 to Pin 17. The power supply should turn on if its working, also the power supply fan should be spinning.

If the power supply is working, then you have a connection problem on the motherboard or a motherboard problem. Check the power button, make sure its on the correct front panel header pins of the motherboard. (i.e. where the HDD LED, speaker, reset, etc.) plug into. Reseat all components to ensure a snug fit.
