I am rebuilding my first briggs and stratton 130202 5hp engine. I am at the point of putting the crankcase cover on. When I rotate the crank all the way around the 4 strokes, there is a catch when the exhaust valve begins to close. This does not seem to be right. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi,
If the crankcase cover isstill off, no wonder.
It would be the sxhaust valve spring. If the cover is on, then there is something in the cam/crank gear teeth.
Peace,
Clarke

Thanks for your reply,
I have taken the cam out and the gear on the crank several times. It still has a catch when we rotate it. Nothing looks obviously wrong. I will have to check the exhaust valve spring.
Thanks, Steve
