I have a three years old chihuahua named honey. She has three puppies that are three weeks old. For the past two days she has been acting weird.
Panting/breathing hard and her heart rate is high. This has caused her to sleep with her mouth open to breathe and not really wanting to nurse her puppies. When she feels these symptoms coming on she alerts someone by jumping in there lap. She will act like this for a few hours and then be normal again. What should I do?

Please take her and the pups to the vet for a checkup.

Yes, agree with Wondergirl, but has anyone in your family been attempting to handle her puppies. Some of the symptoms she appears to be displaying according to your description would lead me to believe she is very anxious.

Is the bed where she is nursing and tending to her pups in a space that is relatively quiet with no family traffic going by? She is aware that her pups are very tiny and may be upset that they are exposed and vulnerable.

She gave birth in mu bed with my assisstance. She only lets me or my husband handle her and the puppies. So thanks for your replys but she is not an anxious dog.

Lol you let a dog give birth in your bed? That's a bit nasty..

Due to her having "episodes" I would guess its pain.

If you just had a baby, were having spasms of pain, would you not go to the doctor?

Take your dog to the vet..

Any dog can be anxious. What do you think that means, something bad?
When a dog is anxious, worried, they pant constantly, until they are settled down and spoken to.

This doesn't sound like anxiety, it sounds like pain.

Did your dog have a checkup after she delivered?

Other than being painful another option would be that she is depleting herslf of minerals and electrolytes by the simple act of nursing her pups.
This is not uncommon in small breeeds.
I wouldn't wait too long before getting her checked out, if this is the case then she may need IV fluids and supplements.
Like I said, just one more option, best to get her checked out to be on the safe side.
