I arrived earlier this year (Feb 2007) on an E-3 Visa with my wife and two young kids.
Can I file jointly with my wife?
Can I claim deductions for dependents?
If so, how many dependents can I claim?

My wife can work here in the US.

Many thanks in advance.

You will NOT file a return for 2006.

You WILL be able to file jointly with your wife and claim both of your kids as dependents for 2007 (unless they change the law between now and 31 Dec 07).

Thank you for your prompt response, greatly appreciated.

I am living in Stratford, CT (Fairfield County). Do you know of a tax specialist / accountant that you would recommend in this vicinity? On the assumption that you, being in Atlanta (?) would not be practical.

Many thanks.

Actually, I prepare returns for people from all over the country (and, to date, five from OUTSIDE of the U.S.).

Mail, email, phone calls and chats make it all possible.
