Hi so about two days ago I noticed we didnt have hot water. So I called a plummer and he had me reset the water heater (a red button) and reset the switch that controls the electricity to the water heater. My water was hot shortly after...Well a few minutes later the water heater made a popping noise like loud popcorn popping, I didnt think it was my water heater cuz I had the washer running.. well 15 min ago I did the same thing the plummer told me to do cuz the hot water wasnt working again. this time the popping was nuts like popcorn popping really really loud and smoke started coming out fromt the water heater and it the smoke smelled different than anything ive ever smelled. What happened? and What should I do?
oh its a 40 gal <<I think. and its electric water heater.

TURN THE POWER OFF AT ONCE!! Your water heater has a dead short If the tanks OK then all that needs to be done is to rebuild the heater by replacing all the parts. The plumber should have checked the load with a Amp-Probe before leaving. Shame on him. Breakers and electric safety devices open and throw out for a good reason and the plumber should have found out why before he left your house. If it were me I'd get another plumber to repair what the first plumber should have caught. Good luck, Tom
