I am building a flat and not sure whether to have a Floor drain trap in the kitchen or not.
There will be a washing machine and dish washer in kitchen.
Do I need a floor drain in kitchen floor? What is the standard?
Thanx!

As a rule we don't install floor drains in a kitchen. A better way would be to install a washing machine on a washer drain pan and pipe it outside. Good luck, Tom

Are you in UK ? I think I disagree with Tom. It is quite common to have kitchen drain in the kitchen in Europe. Yes, you HAVE to install trap with the drain. Also, install PRIMER. Primer will keep trap wet at all times preventing sewer gases from entering kitchen. Back to you. Milo

Thanks for the response.
I dont have problems installing my washing machine or dishwashers, they will be built-in in my kitchen cabinets and will have their pipe lines.
However, I am referring whether it is a standard to have a Floor Drain Trap incase we wanted to mop the floor if it gets wet, or if there is a leak in the washing machine so to use the Floor Drain to take the water out.
But I am not sure how common it is and whether we will really face leaks.
So what do you think?

I am from the Middle East, precisely from Bahrain. Thanks!

Milo,
I was talking about Our installations over here,As a rule we don't install floor drains in a kitchen] When's the last time you roughed in a condo or a single family residence for a floor drain in the kitchen? Cheers, Tom
