My brother has a 1985 dodge ram with a 400 in it . It seems to run ok untill you turn the lights on and then it spits and spudders very bad . Any ideas would be appreciated .

. Remove and fully charge/replace the battery.

. Check the alternator. Regulated battery voltage should be 14 to 15 volts.

Most auto parts stores will test these items for free.
