I was tricked into signing over my son to his grandparents. I did not realize through the fine print that they were going to adopt him. He has been adopted by his maternal grandparents and they changed his name. My son is eight and we talk on the phone. I am in California and he is in Missouri. I left him with them to get help and they took the time away to get the adoption finalized. I only found out by talking to my son and he told me. He wants to live with me and go to school and they are attempting to keep him at home at all times. Please help..

You need to get an attorney to fight this. Generally, a court requires that a parent affirm the adoption in court. Are you the father or mother? Where is the other parent?

If this just happened recently and the adoption was by family members you may be able to get it overturned, but you need an attorney.

The mother signed off and was there to ok the adoption. I was in California unaware of the proceedings, I had signed my custody over to them but not so they could adopt and take full control of him. It was only supposed to be temporary.

Do you have a copy of this? If not and nothing had been filed then they may be able to get away with it. It sounds like you didnt fully read what you were signing. Were you 18 or older at the time you signed it?
