Have you tried any reunion websites?

Adoption.com, adoption.org, and ISRR are three of the most common.

These sites won't find your daughter. However, if she is also looking for you, it is likely that you can match up.

I'm sorry, but to find your daughter if she is not looking for you will be difficult. Where you told the name of the people who adopted her? Can you find out if a passport was issued to her?

Hi Scot
Thanks for reply as well as helpful advise. I cannot recall receiving a adoption certificate as I was quite young & didn't really understand the adoption procedure as well as the social services helped me through the courts the adoption.
I have no idea what her new sur name is nor if she had a passport or how do I look in to if she was issued with a passport. I really don't know any other way of looking for Amelia.
I have registered with Skype , Facebook, several email addresses. Many of the reunion places charges quite a hefty amount, like u said, I am really wasting my time with them. She is now 33 years old , she was adopted when she was 5 years old,
Any other advise u could give me. I have no idea who the adopted parents were..
Thanks a lot for all your advise

Can the service that handled the adoption give you any information?

I'm not sure of adoption laws in the UK. However, I really think your best bet is to join the 3 adoption reunion websites I posted. If she was adopted at 5, I'm sure she knows she is adopted. If she is looking for a reunion, those are the most likely places she'd post. I believe all 3 are free.

ISRR is international and I believe the other 2 are primarily for the US, but could be wrong on that (my adoption story has an open adoption... I know about these sites because of other birthmoms who I've helped with their search).

Hello Synnen
I just did go in to issr, where it says to register, comes up with put your email address for invitation, also it says, how it is run only entirely paid for by donations from individuals like u, I do not like giving out my credit card details to anyone, I know what happens, these people take money out of your credit card after that first payment without your permission. As for the other two, they both seem to charge too, as u read their contract, some where along the bottom, it says u pay a first of so much and there in instalments, also explaining it is not that cheap to investigate & find some one. So yeah, I am bit stuck now.
Thanks any way for your advise

I just checked adoption.com--they have no fee for registering in their reunion section. Yes, they want your email--how else is someone supposed to contact you for a reunion otherwise?

I went to adoption.org, but they seem to no longer have a reunion registry--instead they direct you to other registries.

ISRR is and always has been completely free. Yes, they run on donations--but you do not HAVE to donate. ISRR is NOT an online registry--you MUST mail your registry information to them. You do not have to include any financial information at all with them. Yes, they have a "donate" button on their page, but to actually register, you have to print out their form and mail it in, and the form is free to download and print.

Are you sure that you weren't clicking on an advertised investigator on adoption.com? I just entered my information and did not see ANYTHING about a fee--I would be astonished if they had one, frankly.

AT the top of the page, it says "please click here for new registration forms and other new resources" Click on that.

Next you'll see a rainbow of bars near the top. The green bar is "register". Click on that.

You'll then see a bar of green at the top, but below the rainbow bar. Click on "register" again. This will show the instructions for registering. These are good to read :) Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and there is a link that says "click here to launch the ISRR registration form" This will open a new window with the form that you can fill in online. You cannot, however, submit it online (at least, I can't find anyplace that you can). Fill out the form and print it from the bottom of the second page. Please note that the second page DOES have a form to fill out IF you want to donate. This is optional--you do NOT have to donate to use the registry.

Thank you so much for taking your time in explaining how to go about filling the form, I did register with adoption. Com as well as omni.com . With omni I paid £10.00 through PayPal. I will tomorrow fill out the form you told me. Thank you so much again for your time, Peony
