I am a renter in NC. There are three people on my lease. One still owes partial rent for June, the deposit, and doesn't have July's rent. I am concerned that somehow my other roommate and I may become responsible for the unpaid amount. I hope that because all of us signed the lease that the two of us are not held accountable for the party that hasn't paid. Does anyone know if we become responsible for remainder of monthly rent or if that amount must be collected by landlord from the tenant that owes...?

Carefully read your lease. Look for any language like "jointly and severally liable". If that language is there (and most likely it is), that means that the landlord can hold one or more of the listed tenants responsible for all of the terms of the lease. So if one person doesn't pay the rent the landlord can sue one or more of the other tenants for that amount, at the landlord's option.
