My ceiling fan comes on from time to time without my turning it on. I have a remote, but have removed the battery from the remote and don't use it. I have to turn off the power source at the circuit breaker to the ceiling fan when I go on vacation.

Anyone know why?

Could be a defective remote control module....or hot sunlight might be making it do this....mose of these are infrared remotes and hot sunlight has lots of infrared (think a heat lamp) and can do strange things. I've had sun light coming in a window turn the tv on at times.

Power surges can turn on a fan or light as can a radom radio signal from another source like a neighbors fan or garage door opener. Change the di swithces in the hand held and the receiver in the canopy to another identical setting.
