Good Morning, :)

I am in the process of interviewing contractors for a new heating and air system.

thus far I have spoken with Carrier and Goodman reps. The systems seem to be the same ?

I live in a row home about 1200sqft.

however goodman offers a better warranty and the price was around $4100, ten year parts and labor, life time on the exchanger,80% efficiency, 70 BTU, 13SEER air unit, heating is a two stage system.

question, is goodman a good brand or just a cheap one? when it comes to Goodman, Carrier and Trane wich is the better purchase.

the Carrier system is running about $4200 (from BGE )with 10 year parts and labor and 20 year exchanger.

also does it really make a difference if i get a two stage system or a one stage system.

Thanks 4ever

You will feel a bit more comfort with the two stage unit. Furnaces are a little like cars. There are many brands and owners of each may feel they have the best. Carrier and Trane are huge companies while Goodman is smaller but it doesn't mean they are cheap or poor quality. Statistically you won't be living in the same home 20 years from now so don't let the lifetime warranty sway you. If the Carrier is also 80% efficient I'd go with them. Any chance you can afford to move up to a higher efficiency rating , like 90%? The price of fuel is going to go up dramatically and your savings will add up over a 10 year period.

[QUOTE=ballengerb1]

I think that a 90% is about 1200-1500 more:eek:

But i will find out just to be sure.

if it were between Carrier and Trane would you still go with Carrier

Between Carrier and Goodman, I'd go Carrier. Carrier and Trane are a dead heat in my mind.
