I would address one issue at a time, if70. Apply for a visa at the UK consulate, and present your up to date US passport. At the same time, ask the consulate about same sex marriage over there to see if you can apply for socialized medicine, as well as other benefits of marrying a UK citizen. You may have to declare assets you have in the US to prove that you are able to support yourself while in the UK.
