My dog got a used air activated heat patch out of the trash and ripped it open. The directions say it contains iron and if it comes in contact with your skin to rinse with water. It doesn't appear that she ate any. Does anyone know what exactly is inside of these and what type of issues I should be aware of?

I am unfamiliar with what a heat patch is sorry but with any product that is/can be posionous you should refer to the packaging and contact the poison control number.

If contact with skin is an issue then it's bath time with a gentle soap to make sure there is no residue left on the skin or fur. Also make sure to wash around her mouth and if she allows give her mouth and tongue a quick rinse out with water.

Mine have chewed up a few dangerous things over the years without actually ingesting so crossing fingers yours has done the same.

Call your local Poison Control Center - I have these patches and that's what the warning says to do.

I would think to wash your dog in cool water and no soap.

Contact poison control to see what types of steps you should take in case the product has come in contact with your dogs skin..

Part the hair on her body and see if you can find any red blotches or if there are areas where she is sensitive to touch. A cool bath will help with any type of burn to calm down the inflammation and wash off the chemical.

Then, contact your vet... They might want you to bring her in so they can make her throw up. Better safe than sorry.. Anything that burns the skin will probably kill your dog, or make her extremely uncomfortable and painful going through the GI tract
