I was recently gifted a brand new Toshiba Laptop by my hubby, the problem is that it suddenly goes off. And when I restart it, it asks me whether I should start windows normally or with a safe mode and two other options. I always select the start windows normally option as I don't know about the other two. I have also installed the latest edition of Kaspersky but this still keeps happening. I use the Computer for work mostly and it is really irritating when this happens. Any help will be appreciated.

TBH, if it is still in it's warranty, then take it back.

This sounds like a thermal shutdown issue.
Time to invest in a tin of canned air and blow out all of the ports for muck and dust.

This sounds like you might have a faulty battery. A laptop shouldn't keep switching itself off...
Try leaving it on charge overnight and if the problem persists the next day, call up the shop you bought it from and tell them your problem. Ask them if you can try a new battery in it and if they refuse, tell them (if it's still in warranty) that you would like a replacement battery.

If it's a new PC, I'd highly doubt you'd have a virus. However, just to be sure, download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It's probably the best anti-virus software I've seen in years. It generally finds viruses a lot better than AVG and Kaspersky. :)

Let me know if either of my above solutions work. :)

Cheers,
Alex.

Start it in safe mode. Let all drivers reload on your system. Set it to "Safe Mode with network"
Wait a few minutes. And then see if the computer still shuts down. Then restart in Normal mode. If the computer shuts down still. Then there is the computer is overheating.

To check for over heating use this:
