I have a 7 months old black german shepherd named Zizel
Up until a month ago I had never hit her and she was very well behaved apart from the not coming every time I called her when she was playing with other dogs.
But at one point she chased a dog leaving the dog park and I had to run and get her because she got out in the street and when I got her I smacked her and put her on a leash and tied her at a bench for about 10 minutes..
For the last week however she doesn't listen to me at all when she's playing with other dogs like she used to and she has also started to bite on the leash and pull back when we leave the dog park even though she gets very tired and stops playing.
Could this be age related or have I been really stupid for smacking her when she doesn't listen.Today I decided to never lay a hand on her again
Thanks in advance
Alex

You have probably lost the dog's trust. You are the one she looks up to and you are the one who "smacked" her, however hard, however many times.

You have to start all over again with her.

And, yes, it could be age related. GSD are VERY strong willed. They also never seem to forget.

Dogs know what they did when you catch them doing it - calling her, running to catch her and then smacking her teaches her that when you call her she will get smacked. I wouldn't come, either.

I have no idea what the purpose of tying her to a bench was. She probably didn't know, either.

She bites and pulls back because she wants to stay at the park. Be consistent. "It's time to leave," snap on her leash and leave.

I'd like to thank you for replying
The whole idea of tying her to the bench I was sitting was that smacking her and setting her off in the park straight after would mean it was bad what you did but go play anyway..
Other than that wouldn't losing her trust in me mean she wouldn't want anything to do with me because she follows me everywhere except the dog park and I mean like even when I get up to go to the toilet she follows me..
It's only the dog park I have problems with.Any chance she'll grow out of this?

Sure, she'll grow out of it. She's still a baby. I would just be careful with corporal punishment and make sure the punishment (whatever it is) doesn't last so long that she's defiant.

I've had a lot of GSD in my life, mostly mixed colors. I would LOVE a solid black. Is she solid? As you know they are GREAT dogs - headstrong, but GREAT dogs.

She had a white patch on her chest and left front paw when I got her at 3 months of age but they are fading away now.At this rate it should be totally gone in about 2 months or so.

I have one more question since you have gsd's are they lower at the back from very young or does it happen as they grow up.My pup is lower but nowhere near pictures I see of grown gsd's.
Just wondering

I don't like the low slung dogs - they always looked deformed and uncomfortable to me. My current dog is absolutely horizontal (for lack of a better description). She, of course, isn't show material - but she's a good looking, well bred, wonderful dog.

I did have one "low slung" dog and she had hip problems her whole life.

I know the standard is the low back end. My "low slung" dog started horizontal but then as she grew older had that slanted appearance.

I do agree with you - the dogs that are shown seem to be getting lower and lower in the back end. Have you seen your dogs parents? What do they look like?

One of my (current) dogs is very large for the breed - she's 150 pounds and quite tall, not necessarily broad. The Vet even asked to see her papers, but she had DNA testing before I got her and she's 100% GSD.

A lot depends on personal preference, I guess.
