What type of e-mail application, webmail or client/server based ?

I normally use Recuva or GetDataBack to recover deleted files. Works nicely...

Well your out of luck.
Gmail is a web based app and you'll need to contact Google for assistance.
I don't hold out any hope, I'm afraid..
