My husband and I were diagnosed, finally, while I was in the hospital for GI problems, and nurses and doctors alike kept asking what my sores on my body were from and we told them we thought they were Black Pepper Mites, as I had seen a picture of them on the internet and that is exactly what we were finding in our house: little blotches for lack of a better word, all over the house; counter tops, floors, furniture, walls, clothes, you name it, they are there. The doctor went and checked it out on his computer and came back and said yes, in fact, that is what we had/have and they are in the "scabie" family. They are parasites, skin parasites, not intestinal. We were treated with an oral medication, which did not work. Now when we can afford it ($100.00 per prescription) we were prescribed an all over body, one time application of cream intended to kill them. I have many, many more sores, scares, new sores, all over my body, than my husband, he only has a few, but they sure love me. It was so horrifying at first, but now I've learned to live with it and take all the precautionary measures, which makes life harder than it already is, but I'm hoping when we can afford the cream treatment and move to another home, which we are doing (for other reasons), I have hope that one day, I will not look like a scared freak and be bug and "HORRIFIED, SCARED, PARANOID, LIVING A REAL NIGHTMARE - FREE! Good luck to those who are going through this, it's the most frightening, gross, freaky thing I've ever experienced in my 55 years of life. And I never ever thought something like this would happen to me! I feel for you all.

If they are black pepper mites (bird mite) they cannot live on human blood. They do bite humans, but they do need a host. How to Get Rid of Black Pepper Mites | eHow.com (http://www.ehow.com/how_6210573_rid-black-pepper-mites.html).

What have you done to remove them from your house/apartment? Every resource I find says that is step number one.

You searched for their identity so you probably know there are support groups and a lot of home remedies posted on line.
