Hi, I have been nursing my son for about 11 months. The problem is that for the last 8 months he has only eaten off the left side, leaving the right one to dry up. Or so I thought, lately I have noticed some leakage coming from the nipple. Is this still milk or some kind of disharge. Is this normal.

I don't really know a great deal about breastfeeding, but I noticed that no one has responded to your posting so I didn't want you to feel neglected.

Without actually being able to see the discharge, no one here can answer your question. My suggestion would be to schedule an appointment with your doctor so that she/he can examine you and tell you definitively what exactly is going on.

Hope this helps.

Ruby is right on. It could be mastitis which is an inflammation of the mammary gland, it could be normal, or something else entirely. I don't know where you live, but here in the States a good place for breastfeeding support is the La Leche League. You may want to see if you have a local chapter at La Leche League (http://www.lalecheleague.org)

I actually tried to answer it earlier, but something happened, it didn't get answered, then I went back to studying and couldn't find it again.
