I received a small inheritance from a deceased family member who lived in Mississippi. I am in Calif. I am on permanent disability and I need to know if I have to file a tax return on this check and how I do that. Thank you for any help.

ANY money that is inherited is NOT subject to state or federal income taxes.

While taxes may be due, they are paid by the estate BEFORE you even see the money.
