I went to India in Nov and got married and i brought my wife along with me on Dec 26?

What status should i file ?

Ramesh:

If you wish, you and your wife can file jointly and choose to be treated as resident aliens for the entire year fo 2006. Assuming you have been in the U.S. for all of 2006, the only possible downside to this option is that your wife's Indian-based income is subject to U.S. income taxes. If she had no income, then choose this option, as it allows you to claim both your exemptions (at $3,300 each) and a double Standard Deduction of $10,300. That's a total tax exemption of $16,900.
