I was in a personal contract buying a Camper. The seller has posted information regarding my personal information about me and my Fiance' stating that we have stollen property and that we have warrant's out for us in FL, which is untrue. What was really happening is that the seller was not the real owner of the camper and had no right to sell it and the bank was looking for the camper to repo it. We have contacted the bank and turned over the camper to them. However the money we have paid to the seller is what we would like to know what we have the rigth to do. We have our receipt's and the contract, however we are out the money we applied towards the ownership of this camper. Not to mention the ads he placed on craigslist with our personal information, and theathing to have us arrested for theft. What legal rights do we have?

Depending on the dollar amount and your State, sue him in Small Claims Court. Where has the seller posted the info?

You have to financially damaged in order to collect damages and you would need an Attorney.

Have you asked Craigslist to remove the info (or Facebook or wherever it is)?

You contact craigs list and ask for that info to be deleted.

You sue them for the money you gave them. I would wonder how you did not know it was still owed, since they would not have a title to sell it to you if the bank held the title

If you can prove he had no right to sell the camper, report it to the police.
