What is the make/model of your laptop?
What Operating System?
Does it have wireless capabilities?
Are proper drivers installed?
Is it disabled?
Does it use a third-party utility to manage it's wireless connections or does it use Wireless Zero Configuration?
Is your wireless switch off? (if applicable)

As you can see there are a few things that can cause this. Without being more specific and giving us more details we can't really help.
