Can criminal charges be brought against a former girlfriend who called the police and said that I had a dead bloody body in my house. When the police came they surrounded the house and arrested me. She said that I had kidnapped her and raped her. The charges were later dropped but what can I do about this.

Contact an Attorney and sue her for any money this "episode" cost you - in lost wages, legal bills, MONETARY losses.

You can talk to the DA and see if they are willing to press charges for filing a false police report.
It is totally up to them.
