My cat is going into labor and started about 9am yesterday. It is now 2pm the following day. She is still have contractions off and on. They got progressively stronger then stopped. She started to have darker color discharge and now it is back to clear. She has been sleeping every time the contractions get closer, falls asleep and then starts up again later. I'm not sure what to do but wait at this point. She already went through all of the different signs of giving birth but the fact that she hasn't had a kitten yet.

Can it take longer? Should I be patient? I'm not sure what to do.

Did you call a vet yet for advice and suggestions?

Please don't hover over her. Give her space and make sure she's comfortable with a nesting place.

Hi Wondergirl,

I did call a vet and they said to bring her in 24 hours later if she is pushing without any kittens. However, she isn't really pushing. She has only had about 2 strong contractions and that was within 30 seconds of each other and then stopped. Then she went to go lay down. I'll try calling them again to see what they say, but at this point I'm afraid they are just going to ask me to bring her in.

Does she seem comfortable or is very stressed and can't sit or lie still?

It doesn't sound like she's in labor. Give her more time if she's quiet and not pacing around. Cats don't like people and other animals and noise when they are getting ready to have their kittens, and often have them during the night in the dark.

I say wait.
