View Full Version : I think my cat may be sick.

I need to discover if I need to take my cat to a veterinarian or not. I love my cat more than words can even express. My fiancé jokes about it, but Wednesday is just like my baby boy. I have gone days without eating to make sure that I can provide him with clean liter and food. He's my whole world.

He has been an indoor/outdoor cat for the last couple of months, as he finds himself a free spirit lately. I have given him all of the medication necessary to remain healthy as an outdoor cat (worms, fleas, etc.). I have also checked stool in the last hour, and everything seems to be clear.

This morning Wednesday was in bed with me, sleeping on my face as usual when I woke up. I had some running to do, and I live with roommates, so when Wednesday didn't greet me when I returned like usual, I figured one of them had let him outside. He usually returns within a half hour, as it's starting to snow and he isn't a fan. I had some more running to do, and seven or eight hours later I was at home watching a movie.

I made a mental note that I had not seen him, and ten minutes later my brain started freaking out, and I immediately sent my whole house on a search, because going ten minutes without him in my lap is weird. When we found him he was laying under a counter in my kitchen, which is a new spot for him. When picked up he cried loud, and continued to cry until my boyfriend dropped him in my lap. I immediately was worried. I'm convinced he has been sleeping there all day (it's curtained off, which is why I didn't see him) and NEVER cries like he is now. It seems more of an irritated cry than a painful cry, but I'm not sure. He makes it every time you pick him up, touch his belly, or pet him too hard. He is not a talkative animal, and he rarely ever meows let alone cry.

Is there something I should be looking for? His stomach doesn't seem too overly hard, his gums are pinkish but seemed "sticky" like it wasn't moist (his tongue looked normal, and was moist), his nose is well, and nothing looks abnormal inside of his ears, or anything else that I could seem to discover on the outside.

I know that being financially stable is important to proper pet ownership, and without a hitch I've been doing just fine, but recently I was laid off for three weeks and find myself at risk of being homeless if I can't come up with money to finish off the rent by the end of the month. Against my lovely Michigan economy I was able to find a new job, and things will be back to normal soon, but Murphey's law says this has to happen now.

It's important that taking him to the vet is something that MUST happen, because I will put him before me on any plane. If you know anything about this, please help me out. I'm sorry this is so long winded. Words can not express how much he means to me, and I can't sleep as a result.

(In case you are wondering, I do have a temporary home for him with my sister, who has just enough room for a cat :] I would not keep him in my car with me while I figured things out. )
