However, the dual-status tax return is exceptionally complicated and usually offers no advantage over filing as a non-resident alien. Much depends on what your home country is, whether you are married and if your wife and/or children are with you. Please tell me your home country, your marital status and if you have children. Hungsch Dec 28, 2006, 05:39 AM I am from Zimbabwe, married and have one child. Are there any tips I can get in filling for dual stutus. thanks, Hungsch AtlantaTaxExpert Dec 28, 2006, 04:17 PM Hungsch: Well, dual-status probably makes sense for you, as it will allow you to claim your wife and child as a dependent if they were with you in the U.S. for at least six months. As noted above, the dual-status return is rather complicated. I do not recommend it be prepared by you or the run-of-the-mill tax preparer. You need a tax professional who has experience filing such returns. I am available. If you are interested, you can contact me at david.kempe@<hidden>. Copyright ©2005-, Ask Me Help Desk
