Does distilled water contain sulfites? I am allergic to sulfites and have recently started using distilled water in a bipap machine used to help sleep apnea patients. I suffer from this ailment. I am experiencing a swelled, irritated eye and wondering if it could be due to sulfites in the distilled water. In the past my eyes have had the swelling and irritation due to sulfites in other products. The label on the water does not show that it contains sulfites, but that might be due to it containing less than 10 pts per mill. I appreciate any help out there.

I use a C-pap machine with a humidifier. The humidifier is plastic. As the distilled water heats up in the plastic container, it could be absorbing sulfites from the plastic. Try it without the humidifier and see if that helps.
