I live in an old house with galvanized pipes. I want to have the hot water pipes repiped to copper, but leave the cold alone. I have had 4 estimates, ranging from $2100 to $4500. Half of the contractors say do both the cold and hot, the other say just the hot. I don't know which is correct. I have good pressure with my cold water fawcets, it's just the hot I'm having trouble with.

Eventually you would need to change the galvanize pipes for the cold too, so I would suggest to do it now, Thanks.

Hi all...

Why change over to copper pipes? Copper is very expensive and quite labor intensive. I use copper all the time, but for remodels.. not for an entire repipe job. I would suggest PEX PIPE for this job... check it out at the links below:

I would also suggest that you pipe both up at the same time simply because it really doesn't take much more time to replace the cold while they are there doing the work anyway. To bring them back in will increase the overall cost to the job significantly!

Finally, ask these guys about using PEX pipe... great stuff that has a proven track record and will be the best bet in the long run... promise! Call a local plumbing inspector in your town or city for more opinions on PEX... OK?

Mark

PS: You could also ask about CPVC pipe... again, cheaper material that is super easy to install... ;)

Its better off changing it both now because if its old your going to have to change it soon. You can visit Wholesale Plumbing Supplies | Discount Plumbing Supplies | Fire Sprinkler Supplies | Fire Protection - Glendale Plumbing and Fire Supply (http://gpfsupply.com) for cheap prices on all the material your going to need to do it.
