A business that would not be expected to have a large percentage of its current assets in merchandise inventory would be a?

A non-merchandising company. Think of companies that do not sell merchandise to make money. An extreme example would be a payday loan company. Most of that companies current assets are accounts receivable expected to be paid within one year.
