I need to replace a 1" CPVC plastic ball style shut off valve in my basement leading to my outside sprinkler system. None of my local harward or home improvement stores carry 1" CPVC pipe, connectors, or shut off valves (cream color). The associates tell me it's OK to use 1" PVC that is white in color. I'm anal enough not to want the replacement work to be a different color plus if the professional who did the oringinal work used CPVC, i want to also. I have called local plumbing suppliers and they say they won't sell to me because I'm not a contractor.
Should I continue to look for 1" CPVC parts at retail or is it safe to use the PVC and get over the color differences?

White is fine, what type of conduit is going into valve, PVC or CPVC?

Basically, CPVC can be used for both Hot and Cold water while PVC is used for Cold water only. Therefore, you should be just fine using PVC valve on your sprinkler pipe.

If you want to install really good valve, get Schedule 80 PVC ( dark gray PVC ). Also, Prime pipe ends and fittings before you apply PVC glue.

Good luck with your project... Milo
