I got a call late last night from an elder whose heat died in 20F --- I need to get a thermocouple for a Carrier 58WAV with electronic igniter. I am not an HVAC tech, but do know electronics and have fixed old furnaces, so if the board is bad, that is step 2, but thermocoupler is > 6 years old. I did pull it out, check grounding, rubbed off oxidation on element, etc. It did not work when I reinstalled, so I removed, checked, reinstalled, and tightened it hard. Now furnace works but I do not believe it will last long as thermocouple gets more 'sensitive'. Anyone know how to get a thermocouple like this one? These folks cannot easily afford a high cost service call.
