My weil-mclean WTGO water boiler turned off and I lost my heat. The light was steady red so I pushed the reset and it came back on. Why does this happen?

The boiler needs to be serviced. The button you pushed is called a reset button and when it trips and the unit stops running it is a indication of what could be various different problems. Your unit needs professional attention to discover exactly what caused the problem so a correction can be made to prevent having to use the reset button again.

I my annual service done last month. This happened a week later but the reset didn't work so the burner guy replaced a switch. It's been a couple of days and the burner is still running so I was wondering if this sometimes happens without without the furnace needing to be serviced. Like when you have to reboot our computer or cable modem/ box.

If he replaced the switch of sorts that were not explained by what switch he actually did replace it is possible it just went bad after the service. These things do happen and NO the boiler is not like a computer and under normal circumstances should not have to be reset.. It should operate until a part goes bad causing a problem. Now there are many items that can cause a boiler to stop operating besides a part but it seems in your case a part was the issue.

Thanks. I think I was unclear. The burner was serviced and a week later turned off and wouldn't restart. The switch was replaced and then this week it turned off again but I was able to restart it with the reset. I'm just nervous that it will appen again.

If your annual service was just done the company that did the work should stand by that work. If it turned off again it might not have been a switch problem to start with. I would contact the owner of the company and explain what has been going on. Remember you always get more with one grain of sugar than a pound of salt if you know what I mean
