View Full Version : Why does my 13-year old daughter still pee in the bed?

My daughter has been peeing in the bed since she was a toddler, and she is STILL peeing in the bed at the age of 13. She has her moments where she'll go a month or two without doing it, and just when we're all getting excited, she has an accident again and then every other day or so.

We don't let her drink anything after 7, and she pees before bed. Why can't she stop peeing in the bed? What else can we do to help her get over this? Apparently, it runs in my husband's side of the family, but how can we break the cycle??

Has she seen a doctor about the problem? If so, what did the doctor say?

Additional information - we have also woken her up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom only to find that she already peed in the bed. Ugh!

She has not seen a doctor at this time. I keep thinking she should go, but my husband says that it's not a medical problem, she's just lazy and needs to stop and wake herself up like everyone else does. But then there are times where I'm like "but she's 13 years old... about to be in high school next year? When is enough, enough?"

I would disregard what your husband is telling you and take her to the Dr. This type of "accident" can be related to any different things all that can be addressed so that she can have her dignity as she moves forward. Having accidents is not something that 13 yr old girls need to be dealing with when she should be able to enjoy her youth and sleep overs and the freedom of the burden of the problem. Get her some help.

It is a medical condition. It is something that she can't help for whatever reason it is happening. Maybe this site will help:

Urinary Incontinence in Children (http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/uichildren/)

The biggest thing is to let her know that you love her and to be patient with her. Anxiety only seems to make it worse.

Thanks you guys. I appreciate the support and to know I'm not crazy. LOL! I'll contact her pediatrician today.

I do! It's because my family gives me a lot of stress, and I get yelled at a lot for no reason, and when I tell my grandma, I get scared because she yells and cusses at me! Stress may be the issue

You should try wearing diapers or nappies I know you are 13 but what choice do you have. You could also try one of those water proof mattresses I feel really bad for you

I have the same problem, I went to the doctor & they said nothing was wrong. I had a ultrasound done, nothing was wrong.. I think it's your body is still maturing & eventually it will stop, maybe just give it some time. (:
