Well, I have 2 IDE hardrives, Drive C:\ and D:\. I use C: for programs and Windows 2000, while I store most of my files on D:\. Windows needed to be reinstalled, so I simply reformated C:\ and reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows 2000 on it. That seems to have worked fine... and I can still see a D:\ in My Computer.

Only problem is, I can't access it. It tells me, "D:\is not accessible. Access is denied." If I right click on D:\ Properties, the pie graph shows that there is no used space, and no free space,. both are "0 bytes". I want my drive back! There was no problems before hand, and I did not tinker with any wiring.

What do I need to do?

Do you know if this drive was dynamic or a basic drive?

If dynamic, you may need to import it to the newly installed version of windows!

Could also be the file system.
Remember FAT can't access NTFS.
Win2000 can be installed as both options.

StuMegu: They're both 'basic' drives, or so I'm told when looking at Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management and click on Storage > Disk Management.

Curlyben: Both drives were NTFS, and both still are.

When I go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management and click on Storage > Disk Management, I can see both my C:\ and D:\ drive, that they're both still NTFS, and their relative size, namely 40 gig and 120 gig... and they both appear to be Healthy. The crazy thing is, even in that menu, if I rightclick Explore, I'm told "The system cannot find the device specified."

I've spent many hours trying to trouble shoot this, I'm nearly ready to give up and consider formating it. -sigh- Any other ideas, before I resort to such drastic measures?

Try browsing for a program called PC inspector File recovery. That might be able to scan the drive and recover some info!
