The gargling sounds way to harsh.
Fluids - can't stress the importance. Water and lots of it. Whenever you eliminate, replace. Even if you don't want to.
Chicken broth or hot tea with honey. Again, no harm.
Pain meds: Don't over do. Just enough to be comfortable and keep the fever down.
Nose decongestants: avoid at ALL costs if you can. Saline spay as often as you like.
Nasal rinses: such as Nielmed rinses. Special buffered salt packet and a special bottle with warm water. As often as you like.
Cough expectorents. Useful, but don't over do it.
Stay warm: I can't stress it enough to cause your body to sweat.
Ice packs: be careful, but it can make certain areas better such as the warmness that can occur around the kidneys. Again, do't over do.
New for me this year: Raw onion in your room in a dish. let it sit. Don't eat it.
Also new for me this year: try a small piece of raw onion to eat. To much may overload he body especially if it works.
SWEETS: Eliminate ALL. Absolutely, no HOT CHOCOLATE or COFFEE. Minimize the use of cough drops. Honey and tea is much better.
Your own garbage bag: Can't stress this. ALL of your waste gets handles by you and only you. Place in a separate plastic bag keep it closed when not in use. Not necessarily tight.
New for this year: Have only you handle the bedding/clothes when you were sick. Particularly the bedding. You carry it directly to the washer. Don't infect any other family member.
For now, that's what I remember.
Good luck!
