I think it is important to remember that you deserve better. You may always have some type of feelings for this person because he is the father of your child. Take it slow and put your baby and your self first.
Side note:
Hopefully you are taking the proper steps to have him assist you in responsibly caring for your child?

Make a list of all of his bad habits, behavior, and practices. Be sure to include the fact that he bailed on being a father. Make several copies of this list, and put them up in your house, where you can readily see them. After time, you will be able to take them down.

This guy is obviously not responsible enough to be a good parent, or have a positive influence on your child, so I say be rid of him with no doubts or regrets.

Is he going to help provide for your baby? He can be MADE to do so by the courts after paternity is established.

You have the job of your life ahead of you,(it's full of hard work, but it gives you so much joy) and you shouldn't have anything taking your mind off of it.

I wish you the best for you and your child.
