my toilet keeps filling up to the top when flushed, it also bubbles now and then. we are also getting a smell coming from it in the mornings. what is the matter with my toilet?

Do you mean the bowl is filling to the top or the tank? Its likely you have a clogged drain, could be in the toilets integral trap or further down. Start with a toilet auger, if that doesn't work then you may have to rod the line. Are there any other fixtures in use that may cause the bubbling? This may also be a clogged vent stack right at the drain line connection, rod from the roof with enough snake to reach roof top to basement plus 20'
