I was diagnosed with genital herpes 10 years ago (type 1) and only had about 4 outbreaks back then over a two year period. This past year has been stressful but not any more stressful then the last several years, but I did have an outbreak in the summer and am not sure if I have one now as I thought I had the flu. On Monday, I had diarehea, on Tues., I had the chills, fever, body aches and pains and just feeling exhausted. On Wed. morning, I went to the Dr. and she prescribed Tamiflu as the flu epidemic is so widespread that that is what we both assumed it was. By the end of yesterday (Wed.) I didn't feel any of the symptoms except for being tired. Last night I noticed a bump on my genitals (hard to see if blistery as it's under hair) and I am wondering if maybe I'm having a herpes outbreak and not actually the flu. I also got my period this morning which has coincided with previous outbreaks. Today I am just feeling tired. It is also in a different spot than where it has been before. Could I get major flu like symptoms this late from the initial herpes outbreak 10 years ago? Any suggestions on what it could be? I don't have a Dr.'s appmt. until Monday and the walk in clinics are backed up with flu patients.
Thanks.

Sounds to me like you are having both. You can't confuse the flu with herpes...they are two different viruses. The flu weakened your immune system and you were stressed...weakened immunity and stress can cause a herpes outbreak.
