My puppy is 4 weeks old. She comes from a liter of 9 and 7 died at birth. The mother has been unable to breed, but got away before we could get her spade. The puppy is thin, with scabs over her. We had gotten rid of the scabs and they were eating. One of the two died and we have one left. She has been washed for fleas and wormed with puppy wormer.

You had better get that little thing to the vet to be properly diagnosed on an as seen basis. I dont know what you mean by 'the mother has been unable to breed' ? Do you mean nurse the pup ?

You will have to find out from a professional what type of food she will be on that she can digest at four weeks, probably being quite weak if she has had no nursing milk. Her immune system is probably pretty low as well.

There are certain procedures you will have to perform for this little pup; washing with a warm cloth and stimulating the tummy so it will eliminate. A task performed by the mum by licking the pup. Keep he/she warm. I used to carry one around with me in a carry case at my breast until it could start generating its own heat.

Flea medicine is not recommended for puppies that little.
She needs to get to a vet ASAP.
Treating her at home without the proper dosages for her age and size is worse than not treating her at all.

Also you need to treat the home environment to get rid of fleas for good.

She could be anemic from fleas and or sick from the flea medicine.

The mother has been unable to breed ... but had puppies?

The scabs are eating?

What?

Things like this really upset me. As you can see by the other posts, I'm not the only one.

Instead of taking care of your responsibility, getting these dogs the care they need, you come to the internet. What do you think we can do?

Even if there was a vet on this site that vet couldn't help you on line. You need to go to an actual vet.

If you can't afford one then you should have thought of that before allowing your dog to breed. I don't buy the "she got out before we could get her spayed" story. A responsible owner not only makes sure that a dog is spayed or neutered at 6 months, they also make sure that the dog doesn't "get out".

So take responsibility, get that pup and the mother to a vet now!

I'll bet the flea treatment and the wormer killed the poor little thing. Who worms a 4 week old puppy at home?
